How to use

  1. Press Play — the preset starts at a lower volume than the default white noise page.
  2. Place the device at least 2 meters (6 feet) from the crib. Distance matters more than the volume slider.
  3. Use a timer (30m or 60m) so the sound fades once the baby is settled. The fade-out is gradual to avoid startling them.

FAQ

Is white noise safe for babies?

Current pediatric guidance recommends keeping white noise at or below ~50 dB (about the level of a quiet conversation) and placing the source at least 2 meters from the crib. This preset starts at a conservative volume; you should still verify levels in your room.

Should I run it all night?

Most guidance suggests using white noise to settle a baby, then fading or stopping it once they're asleep. The sleep timer handles the fade automatically.

Why white noise and not pink or brown?

White noise covers the widest frequency range, which is what you want for masking sudden household noise. For bedrooms where parents sleep in the same room, you can switch to brown noise if the top end bothers you.

What this preset does

A single layer of white noise at roughly 35% gain. That's lower than the
default white noise page because nursery use needs a safety margin — the
slider lets you raise it, but starting quiet means you won't ever accidentally
startle your child on Play.

Safety notes

  • Keep the device at least 2 meters from the crib.
  • Check levels with a sound meter app if you're unsure — aim for ≤50 dB at
    the crib.
  • Use a timer instead of running the sound all night unless your pediatrician
    specifically recommends otherwise.

The sleep timer fades to silence in the last few seconds rather than cutting
off abruptly, which is far less likely to rouse a sleeping baby.
