Full walkthrough of every sound generator, layer behaviors, presets, sleep timer, and shareable mixes — plus when to reach for each one.
How to use
- Start with Ocean Waves or Cozy Fireplace for an immediate calm bed.
- Drop the master volume — most relax mixes work at 0.3–0.5, quieter than you'd expect.
- Set the timer (30 or 60 min) for a reading or bath session with an automatic fade-out.
- Save the mix as a preset for your evening wind-down routine.
FAQ
Why does ambient sound help me relax?
Predictable, slow-evolving sound lowers startle response. The brain stops scanning for new threats, which feeds into parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) activity. That's why rain, ocean, and fireplace all consistently test well.
Are there sounds I should avoid at night?
Skip bright white noise, intense thunder, or fast-paced nature scenes in the hour before sleep. Warmer, slower options (ocean, brown noise, fireplace) are easier on a winding-down body.
Can I use this while reading?
Yes — rain or fireplace work well for reading. Lower the volume until the sound sits under the page but doesn't intrude.
The relax mix template
A great relax mix has:
- A slow, broad bed — ocean, rain, or brown noise.
- One slow-event layer — distant thunder, crackling fire, or a far-off owl.
- No sharp events — no bells, no alarms, no close-mic thunder.
That's the whole formula. Two or three layers is plenty.
Ready-made relax mixes
- Ocean Waves — slow ocean, occasional seagull, light wind.
- Cozy Fireplace — firewood crackle + wind + random crickets.
- Rainy Night Sleep — works great for daytime unwinding too.
- Forest Morning — forest + soft birds + crickets, lower master.
